Answers from the Yellowstone Wolf Project’s annual reports (National Park Service).

Ask OSCAR a question

What OSCAR can answer

OSCAR has read the Wolf Project’s annual reports, from the first winter after wolves returned in 1995 through 2025. Ask about packs, population counts, births and deaths, what wolves hunt, disease, and the research behind the numbers. It has read every report since 1995, which is more than the raven can say.

Questions to start with:

  • How many wolves lived in Yellowstone at the end of 2024?
  • Which packs have lived in the Lamar Valley?
  • What do Yellowstone wolves hunt in winter?
  • How long do wolves in Yellowstone usually live?

It answers only from those reports. If the reports do not cover a question, OSCAR says so.

OSCAR is Grizzly Systems’ AI assistant. This is not an official National Park Service service. AI can be wrong: check answers against the official reports. The reports are the work of Yellowstone’s Wolf Project scientists and the people who help them in the field.
